Company Headquarters.jpgKMG International N.V. (formerly known as The Rompetrol Group N.V.) was acquired by KazMunayGas in 2009. Headquartered in the Netherlands, The Group is an international oil company with operations in 12 countries throughout Europe, Central Asia and North Africa.

The group is active primarily in refining, marketing and trading, with additional operations in exploration and production, and other oil industry services such as drilling, EPCM, and transportation.

KMG International owns the largest and most modern refinery in Romania and the Black Sea region – Petromidia Navodari – which boasts a processing capacity of over five million tons per year.

The company’s retail network that operates under the “Rompetrol” brand incorporates over 1,100 fuel distribution points in Romania, Georgia, Bulgaria, Moldova, and under Dyneff brand in France and Spain.

KMG International employs over 7,500 people worldwide, of which around 6,000 in its „home market”, Romania.

Romania is a major market in South-Eastern Europe, with a population of approximately 20 million people; demand for fuel amounts to about 6 million tons per year. There is a sustainable growth in oil products consumption with favorable long-term prospects of growth, taking into account average forecast of GDP of Romania and expected economic growth.

In 2007, Kazakh national oil and gas company KazMunayGas purchased the first 75% stake in The Rompetrol Group. Through this transaction, KazMunayGas gained access to two refineries and a major petroleum products distribution network in the European Union.

In the autumn of 2008, Rompetrol and KazMunayGas launched Media Marine Terminal for crude oil in Media Black Sea port. Following the project completion the vessels unload oil using offshore unloading systems through underwater and onshore pipes connected to the crude oil tank farm and Petromidia refinery. Compared to the route through Constanta port, the project helped to reduce the length of the pipeline between the tanker and the refinery by 33 km.

In June 2009, National company KazMunayGas completed acquisition of a 25% stake in Rompetrol Group N.V. As a result of this transaction KazMunayGas became a 100% owner of TRG.

Following a comprehensive upgrading of Petromidia refinery, which was completed in 2013 Petromidia refinery is now one of the most technologically advanced up-to-date facilities in the region compliant with European HSE standards and producing Euro-5 fuel.

With a Nelson complexity index of 10.5, following the USD 380 million investment program that began in 2006 and ended in 2012, Petromidia is the most efficient medium-sized refinery in Romania. Petromidia accounts for more than 40% of the actual refining capacity of Romania, as it is the largest internal industry unit and the only one located by the Black Sea shore, supplied directly through the Midia Marine Terminal, located off the coast.

Petromidia is also the first refinery in Romania to successfully align to European environmental regulations and fuel standards. Rompetrol Rafinare reached a historical record in 2014 in terms of the volume of processed feedstock. Since its foundation, in 1979, Petromidia refinery has processed 100 million tons of feedstock. Rompetrol Rafinare exports reached over 2 billion USD in 2014 (1.7 billion USD in 2013, 1.7 billion USD in 2012), ranking first among the largest petroleum products exporters and second overall exporter in Romania.

In 2014, the Board of Directors passed a resolution whereby The Rompetrol Group group was renamed into KMG International N.V. Changing the name of the company is part of a strategy to promote the brand KazMunayGas and capitalization of its business. The "umbrella" brand is a prerequisite for strengthening the market position of the group of companies under the brand name KMG both within the country and for its successful entry into the foreign markets.

The company will continue a selective expansion on core markets and will further optimize its current activity in order to enhance the Rompetrol brand on the European market and continue to be a Kazakh pioneer on the foreign markets in the years to come.
